The "Music in the Park"
Series showcases Michiana area musicians on four Fridays at the
Young Amphitheater in Centennial Park during the summer. Gates open at 5:30
p.m. and shows begin at 7:00 p.m. Tickets: Adults $3; Students $2 (Grades

2005 ~ JetStream The band JetStream is
from the Plymouth area featuring "Doc" Koontz, on saxophone, keyboard and
vocals; Dave Haycraft on guitar and vocals; Jerry Mitchell on drums and
harmonica; Chris Sarna on bass; and Dennis Ringle on lead guitar and vocals.
The members of the group have played most of their lives in different bands ad
in April 2004 came together and formed JetStream. With tunes ranging from the
50's, 60's and 70's this group is sure to appeal to a variety listeners.
JetStream is gaining in popularity all over northern Indiana, so bring a
picnic, enjoy the music and sing along under the stars.

2005 ~ George Schricker & The George's Brother
Band For the past twenty-five years George Schricker has been
sharing his original songs, stories and poems in concerts across the state of
Indiana and beyond. He is has written songs for the Chicago Field Museum,
Indiana State Parks, and in numerous schools in Arts-In-Education residencies.
He has produced or co-produced nine recordings for children and adults. His
latest album, entitled "The Space," was performed at the Indianapolis Arts
Center and at The Indiana Historical Society. School Library Journal and
Parent's Guide, both independent and national reviewers, reviewed his latest
children's album, "George's Brother," quite favorably, calling it "fun-filled,"
"catchy," and "well-produced."
George Schricker & The George's
Brother Band features Mr. Schricker on rhythm guitar and lead vocals, Gene
Ley on lead guitar and backup vocals, Steve Deford on keyboards and backup
vocals, and Amy Luke on backup vocals. George's show at the amphitheater will
feature his favorite children's songs, many of which are interactive and
participatory. During the show, audience members are encouraged to sing, sign,
and even dance along to may of the songs. It is a perfect concert opportunity
for parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and children and their extended
families to get involved. Come to participate or just enjoy the show of fun,
lively, original and creative children's music.
Friday, July 15, 2005 ~ Straightaway
Voted one of Michiana Now's top 5 rock bands and four-time winner of
Heartland's Battle of the Bands, Straightaway has the sound and
appearance that hasn't been seen in this area for years. Founded in 1986 as a
Jazz/Fusion combo, the band went through a number of format and personnel
changes before evolving into what it is today. With completion of their own
recording studio they have been working on a full-length original rock CD and
an original jazz/fusion CD. Band members include Dave Tanner on saxophones,
keyboards and lead vocals; Dan Tanner on bass and vocals; Rick McMillen on
lead/rhythm & acoustic guitars; Jimmy Ruggles on lead/rhythm & acoustic
guitars and vocals; and Tony Tallarita on drums and percussion. The band also
includes Jessica Ottow on lead/back-up vocals and Chris Neely as
audio/video/lighting engineer. Straightaway has established a great
following, so join them, bring a picnic and enjoy the sounds of one the areas
top rock bands. Friday, July 29,
2005 ~ Lake Area Community Band This is the
seventeenth year of the Lake Area Community Band performing traditional
band concerts in Syracuse, Goshen, Warsaw and other surrounding communities in
northern Indiana. Under the direction of Martin Becker with co-director Phil
Eherenman, the band performs a variety of easy listening music from Marches to
Big Bands to Swing and the occasional symphonic piece.
Lake Area
Community Band was founded by Syracuse resident, the late Dale Mock. Mr.
Mock envisioned a quality musical group that would not only entertain
audiences, but also provide an outlet for the areas many talented musicians.
The current band represents a broad spectrum of backgrounds including lawyers,
school teachers, engineers, housewives, students and senior citizens from many
different communities. Several members have been with the band since its
inception. Spend a relaxing evening picnicing with friends and listening to
enjoyable music under the stars. |
